What To Do With Fear

What To Do With Fear

Even though we seem to be riding the wave down and out of worldwide turmoil, there is always another wave coming right behind it. So many times, life feels like we are moving from one kind of trauma to another. The enemy would certainly like for us to think that way, but it is important to identify fear as a tactic of the enemy keeping us from fulfilling God’s purpose in our life. The Word of God leaves no room for fear to gain an open door in our minds.

In His Word, the fear of God is a weapon for combating the unhealthy, negative fear of the enemy. Having a healthy, positive fear of God diffuses the enemy’s ability to plant thoughts of fear, worry, anxiety, depression and even torment. Daily you can take fearful thoughts captive and believe what He says—looking at life through the lens of His Word. You don’t need to be tossed about by every wind and wave, always looking in fear for what is coming next. You can live solid, sure and free from fear by looking to the Rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ. He has defeated fear once for all.

Standing on the Rock,

Fireplace Ideas

Hospitality is a big part of showing people the love of God. My favorite place to show hospitality is in a room with a fireplace. I love fireplaces and I don’t know about you, but if there’s a place I want to cozy up and feel relaxed it is near a fireplace. Did you know, it’s actually scriptural for us to have a fireplace and to invite people over who may be strangers or new acquaintances.

The people who lived there showed us extraordinary kindness for they welcomed us around the fire they had built because it was cold and rainy. Acts 28:2 TPT

This is talking about a physically cold time and I know all about that from growing up in Minnesota. I was a cheerleader in high school and Minnesota  was very very cold on game nights. We would ride home in the back of a school bus and by the time I got back to the school, I was teeth-chattering cold. My dad was there to pick me up and he always had a fire in the fireplace when we got home. He would put me right next to the fire then bring me a cup of hot chocolate or apple cider. That made me feel so loved and it created a memory that I have carried with me all my life.

I believe this scripture is also talking about when people’s hearts are cold.

Guests in your home may have gone through a difficult season and simply need to feel the warmth and love of God. Biblical hospitality can involve welcoming guests into your home who have cold, sad hearts that need to be warmed. Spend some time gathering around the fireplace, talking about the Lord and creating beautiful memories with hospitality.

Master Suite(ness)

Master Suite(ness)

What is the last thing you see before you fall asleep at night and the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning? Your bedroom. The master suite decor often reflects the same care that is given to the marriage relationship of those that reside there. When a master suite is cluttered, dingy, dark or crowded, it can be a picture of a marriage that needs some attention and care. Beauty and airiness in the master suite decor can change how you end the day and begin the day with your spouse.

‘I am my beloved’s, And my beloved is mine.’ Song of Solomon 6:3a NKJV

In Song of Solomon there are many references to spending time together in a vineyard and a garden, which communicate beauty and airiness. That should be our focus when creating master suites and bedrooms—to make it a special space for you as a couple. For example, Dave and I have our first cup of coffee together each morning in our master suite. We also eat popcorn together in our room at the end of the day. It is priceless to begin and end your day together in a peaceful place.

Spend some time clearing out the clutter, open up the windows to create some freshness then see what a difference it makes in your relationship. Beauty, airiness and keeping it neat is a goal. The master suite is where we end the day and start the day together, so make it your private retreat. In addition, God’s interactions with us in the night are a promise we can delight in. The Word of God tells us, when my mind is asleep, my heart is awake (Song of Solomon 5:2a). What a blessing!
